Written and recorded in Los Angeles California in the summer of 2011, the Royal Band’s album is the bands debut studio release. Blending classic Pop and Rock & Roll sounds, Royal Band is a reflection of their founding members musical diverseness. Peter Daily and Darius Minaee met while touring as drummers for indie Hip-Hop artists Pigeon John and Lyrics Born. After numerous demos and preparation the band tapped keyboardist Adam MacDougall (Circles Around the Sun/The Black Crowes) to be their producer.
The recording process spanned several studios in the LA area. With the band consisting of Peter and Darius they would recruit a mix of musicians to fill in the blanks as they began recording. Starting at the now closed Hollywood Sound Recorders the guys found their home base with engineer Chris Steffen. The sessions took off with Brian Ray (Paul McCartney) and Chris Bruce (Seal/Sheryl Crow) recording guitar. Wheels turning, the sounds moved to the beach at 4th St. Recording in Santa Monica. A favorite studio of the band, these sessions were highlighted with Shawn Davis (Beck) on bass.
Recording paused while producer Adam MacDougall hit the road with Chris Robinson Brotherhood. During that time the band played the LA music scene with Chicago native Mike Matias on bass and guitar player Jeff Trastek who played guitar on the song “Deadman.” Back from tour, Adam rejoined the band and they picked up where they left off. Rounding out the sessions included guitarists Neal Casal (Circles Around the Sun) on the song “Just Another Monday” and Joel Shearer (Alanis Morissette) on “Beautiful to Me.”
The ten songs recorded released on all streaming services on July 10th 2020 with a rumored new album slated for 2021 in the works.
